Sladjana Vasic is a Silk Painter and Illustrator.
2016 is a leap year. This one, like every leap year from the time that I was born is somehow very important. Every big change in my life happened during a leap year. I moved every leap year, got married and started a new job.
In 1988 I was a freshman in High School for the Arts in Sarajevo where I studied fashion design up until 1992 when we had to move. That same year I got into the Teaching College in Novi Sad, Serbia. 1996 I got my college degree and started to work in a day care center in Belgrade. 1997 I illustrated my first children's book on Rusyn language " Hodzim, Vidzim, Cujem, Cuvstvujem." By Jakov Kisjuhas. Next year I illustrated another one with the same publisher and author.
2000, leap year, new adventures were in order. That year I met my husband and got married, gave birth to one beautiful girl, moved once more and soon enough it was 2008 when we moved to Plainsboro from Belgrade, Serbia. Thanks to Mrs. Janet S. Wong I illustrated her book of poems about endangered animals "Once Upon A Tiger", my first illustrating work in USA. Soon after that I did Illustrations for Mr. David L. Harrison's "Goose Lake". From that time until now I did book cover designs, illustration editing and eBook publishing.
When I was still in High School our teacher showed us the Batik technique and I liked working with silk. I liked how these bright and vibrant colors move freely over the silk. Now I use different way of painting on silk called "Serti" (closing or fence) technique where designs are outlined with gutta or water-based resists.
